Your SoroSoke username (or handle) is the unique identifier that appears after the @ symbol on your profile. It is how other users find and mention you.
Username rules
- Must be 3–30 characters long.
- Can contain letters, numbers, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
- Cannot contain spaces or special characters other than
_and-. - Must be unique — no two accounts can share the same username.
- Cannot impersonate another person, public figure, or organisation.
- Cannot contain offensive or prohibited words.
Checking username availability
During sign-up, you will be prompted to choose a username. The app checks availability in real time as you type — a green checkmark means the username is available; a red message means it is already taken. Try variations by adding your LGA, state, or numbers.
How to change your username
Go to Settings → Profile → Edit Profile.
Tap the username field and clear the current username.
Type your new desired username. The app checks availability in real time.
Tap Save to confirm the change.
Your old username becomes available for others to register once you change it. Any existing @mentions of your old username in other people's posts will not automatically update.
Username not available
If a username you want is taken, try these approaches:
- Add your LGA or state:
@adaeze_enugu - Add numbers:
@tunde99 - Add underscores:
@chidi_speaks
